BLUF: There is a scheduled hearing this Friday by the Senate Finance Committee. It is a Field Hearing and will not be televised/webcast. We will hear reporting on the hearing after the fact. Hearing | Hearings | The United States Senate Committee on Finance

In addition, the Problem Solvers Caucus, a group of 62 Members of Congress split between Democrats and Republicans in the House, voted to endorse the Social Security Fairness Act. Most already cosponsored the legislation, but there have been recent additions in past weeks, and possibly more to come with these developments.

Please see below some articles about the Senate Field Hearing and the Problem Solvers Caucus:

Since (and around) the time of the Problem Solvers Caucus endorsement, 3 additional Representatives cosponsored the legislation, 2 of whom were caucus members, including:

  • Rep. John James (R-MI-10) [05/17/2024] (Problem Solvers Caucus)
  • Rep. Tim Kennedy (D-NY-26) [06/03/2024]
  • Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA-3) [06/04/2024] (Problem Solvers Caucus)

Note that the following Problem Solvers Caucus members are not listed here as cosponsors as of today. These Members may cosponsor now that the caucus has weighed in:

  • Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD-At-Large)
  • Rep. John Curtis (R-UT-3)
  • Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC-11)
  • Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT-01)
  • Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI-01)

As it stands, the bill is at 322 cosponsors in the House and 57 in the Senate. The following Senators have recently cosponsored the companion bill:

  • Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-NE) [05/21/2024]
  • Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) [06/03/2024]
  • Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) [06/03/2024]
  • Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) [06/04/2024]
